The shooting we did for Cake Boss last September in Hoboken was a real watershed moment creatively in my career. It was the first time I felt I really owned the photography. Stephie had painted the backdrop in our driveway into the night. It was a large canvas that looked like a piece of dark brown leather. The next day we hung the bakground behind the bakery in the very same alley “On The Waterfront” had been filmed in years ago. I had an assistant climb a ladder with a large sifter full of flour. I then told Buddy to stand there and not move while we sifter the flour over him. In that moment I was totally aware of how we got there, exactly what I was doing, and where it was going. I owned the moment in a conscious way I had never experienced before. Much of the work on this site has been taken from that moment on. Pit Masters. Glenn Beck. Much of Jackson & Jeni’s.
